Diversity Graduate Registration Award

The Society for Personality and Social Psychology offers a limited number of awards to support students attending its annual convention.  Awards from the SPSP Diversity Fund are devoted to increase diversity within personality and social psychology.

Award Info

Description

Applying and receiving a registration award will not impact future travel award applications. You may apply if you received a travel award in the past. If you receive a registration award, you may apply for a travel award in the future.

About the Award

SPSP has established a fund devoted to increasing diversity within personality and social psychology. As part of this initiative, eligible graduate students are invited to apply for registration awards to attend the SPSP annual conference. Registration award winners will have the conference registration fee waived.

SPSP is an international organization and will consider applications from students both inside and outside the United States. All applicants should explain how their participation at the conference advances SPSP's goal of enhancing diversity.

The SPSP Diversity and Climate Committee will also host a reception for award recipients during the conference (time and location to be announced). Award winners are required to attend this reception, where they will have the opportunity to meet with an admired scholar in social and personality psychology of their own choosing.

Selection Process

Award decisions will be based on the excellence of the applicant’s scholarly record.

SPSP does not have a strict definition of diversity. All members are welcome to apply if they feel their background will add to the diversification of SPSP. Please note, any demographic information shared in the application will be viewable by the reviewers assigned to your application. We, however, do not judge applications based upon this criteria.

Eligibility
  • Applicants for the award are required to be SPSP members at the time of submission.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program with an emphasis in social/personality psychology at the time of the convention.
  • Applicants must be a member of an underrepresented group in social/personality psychology (these groups include, but are not necessarily limited to, ethnic and racial minorities; first-generation college students; lesbian, gay and bisexual students; transgender students; and students with a physical disability).
How to Apply

Submision Requirements

  • A current vitae (CV)
  • Presentation abstract for a submitted conference presentation (poster, symposia or data blitz). This is not a requirement, but priority may be given to students presenting at the conference.
  • A 250-word essay in which you describe your research interests, career goals, and how you would benefit from a Diversity Fund Graduate Student Registration Award

How to Submit

Submissions for the 2021 convention are now closed.
