Re-search into Me-search

Feature ImageWe often measure success in graduate school through the productivity that we can put on our CVs: papers written, posters presented, academic conferences attended. But what if you could share your research in a public, impactful way, without a single citation? Eden Hennessey shares her experience in turning her academic research into an artistic exhibition. Click here to read more.

Dissertation Diaries: Lessons in Academic Humility

Feature ImageA dissertation is a lesson in many things: research methods, statistics, literature review, academic writing… and humility. Read as Oliver Holmes describes how he dove head-first into the dissertation process a little TOO eagerly, and the knowledge he gained along the way. Click here to read more.

One of the SPSP 2016 Preconferences that may be of special interest to students is hosted by the SPSP Training Committee, titled: “Navigating the New Era of Social & Personality Psychology Preconference.”  This Preconference brings together some of the most well-respected names in the field to get their take on the state of the field, what changes are occurring, and how early career scholars can navigate our rapidly changing science. APA Convention Submissions

Interested in seeing the Rocky Mountains next summer? APA Division 8 (Personality and Social Psychology) is accepting proposals for symposia and posters for the APA Annual Convention, to be held August 4-7 in Denver, Colorado. Graduate students and early career faculty in particular are encouraged to organize a symposium or submit a poster! APA non-members can submit proposals if a co-author is an APA member, or if they are sponsored by an APA member. Submissions are due by midnight EST on Tuesday, December 1, 2015: see the submission website for more details.

Joining APA Division 8: Social and Personality

SPSP student members are now eligible to join APA’s Division 8: Social and Personality.  As an APA Division 8 member, individuals qualify for the APA Convention member registration rate, while being a member of SPSP by itself, does not. APA Division 8 members also qualify for reduced rates for APA journals (e.g., JPSP).

To become a Division 8 of APA member, individuals must apply via the APA website, meet APA's membership criteria, and indicate interest in becoming a member of APA Division 8, which requires an additional $2 paid directly to APA beyond regular APA dues.

Other Conventions

American Psychological Association (APA) - December 1 submission deadline

International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP) - December 10 submission deadline

Behavioral Decision Research in Management (BDRM) - December 30 submission deadline

International Association for Relationship Research (IARR) - January 15 submission deadline
